Finding connection through language, place and memory.

Heritage programs give overseas Chinese young people a welcoming way to explore the culture carried through their families.

A journey that makes heritage personal.

The museum has welcomed overseas Chinese youth from more than 20 countries. Character-centered activities offer participants a shared language for reflecting on family, belonging and cultural identity, whether they are fluent in Mandarin or just beginning.

During the 2024 China Root-Seeking Tour in Hunan, participants used individual characters—including connection, family, gratitude, friendship, joy and courtesy—to tell the story of their ten-day experience. At the museum, they explored the development of Chinese writing and the values expressed through it.
